(WTNH)–The UConn men’s basketball team picked up its first home win on Wednesday night. Freshman Christian Vital led the way. His 13 points were the key to the Huskies’ 51-49 win over Boston University.

With guys dropping like flies on the injury-riddled roster, the freshman got his first career start and played 36 minutes.

“It’s definitely a big confidence booster, I’m getting experience in late-game situations. I kind of experienced that in Maui as well, at LMU, I was in the game final minutes, final few seconds,” Vital said. “Now I’m just taking it game by game, learning, and I’m getting better at it. I feel more confident out there each game being in there with under two minutes to go.”

Kevin Ollie’s team will be back in action on Monday, with an old-school showdown against Syracuse at Madison Square Garden. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
