Ansonia football looking for program’s 20th state championship on Saturday

(WTNH)–No one has more state titles than the Ansonia football team. On Saturday, the Chargers will play for the program’s 20th championship.

Rocky Hill hopes to derail their chances.

Ansonia, like New Canaan in Class LL, is making their 10th title game appearance in 11 years. So far on the season, Tom Brockett’s guys are unbeaten.

The Chargers have fallen short the last two years in the title game, including last year’s loss to Bloomfield.

“I think as a program, it’s been in the back of our minds, you want to make it right,” said head coach Tom Brockett. “But I think this year more than any year ever, it was day-by-day. There was no chance to talk about state championships with this team in August or September.”

Ansonia and Rocky Hill have the early game in New Britain, a 10:30 a.m. kickoff. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
