Is New Canaan’s Lou Marinelli the Geno Auriemma of high school football?

(WTNH)–The high school football season will come to an end on Saturday, as four state championships are up for grabs. New Canaan will play for its 4th straight title.

Lou Marinelli’s Rams will take on unbeaten Windsor. New Canaan has become the team to beat year in and year out. This will be the Rams 10th championship appearance in the last 11 years.

You can’t dismiss the impact Marinelli has had on the football program. The Rams have won 11 state titles, and if they pull off a win on Saturday, it would be the Rams’ second 4-peat.

Marinelli is like the Geno Auriemma of high school football.

“No, no, I’m nowhere him, believe me,” Marinelli said, smiling. “We just happen to have a great staff and a great group of kids, and we work hard and we want to get there every year.”

“It’s like a family. We enjoy being together, and I think the kids feel it,” he said.

The Rams and Windsor play Saturday at 2:30 at Willow Brook Park in New Britain. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
