(WTNH)–For the second straight year, the Darien Blue Wave are the No. 1 high school football team in the state.
The final New Haven Register poll came out, and the Blue Wave are on top. They won back-to-back championships and put together back-to-back perfect seasons under head coach Rob Trifone. They’ve now won 25 straight games.
The Class LL title was Darien’s sixth overall.
Class L champion New Canaan, Class LL runner-up Ridgefield, Class L runner-up Windsor and Class LL two-seed West Haven rounded out the top five. The Blue Devils were undefeated during the regular season, but were upset by Ridgefield in the first round of the state tournament.
The rest of the top ten featured sixth-ranked Hillhouse, which captured the Class M championship over St. Joseph of Trumbull on Saturday, Class S champion Ansonia, Southington, Shelton, and Notre Dame-West Haven.
