(WTNH)–Imagine your dad played in the NBA. Living up to his name is going to follow you every time you lace ’em up. Over at Southern Connecticut State, Joey Wallace is doing his best to make his dad John—a former beast of the Big East and New York Knick—proud.
You can’t miss John on the sidelines. He can be found in the same spot at every Southern Connecticut State game to watch his son.
“I’m a proud parent and I love living vicariously through my kids,” he said.
And Joey loves having him there.
“I kind of feed off of his energy, I know he’s always in his corner, he has his same spot every game,” Joey said.
John is watching his son play, a role reversal from when Joey would watch his dad play in the NBA.
“Those tough-minded battles, yeah, I miss those,” John said. “That’s what I was brought up on.”
Joey misses the good old days too. Especially when John played for the Miami Heat.
“Playing video games with Dwyane Wade, Lamar Odom, Udonis Haslem,” Joey said. “I killed Lamar Odom in Madden.”
John came from the rough, rugged ’90’s style of ball, and Joey’s not giving anything up easy either. So, who’s winning a game of one-on-one?
“Well, I’m going to win because I’m going to back him down a lot,” John said.
“I would beat him,” Joey said. “Of course, he probably said he would win because we’re like the same person. We’re both very competitive.”
Like father, like son.
